Organised by the Foundation "Vevey, Ville d'images", the third Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey - European photography contest, is held within the framework of the 3rd IMAGES Festival. It is open to professionnal photographers - would-be names in European photography in the future. The aim of the contest is to discover new talents and give them the opportunity to express themselves on a subject of their choice. The object is for contestants to present projects, not finished works, and full liberty is granted in respect to theme. The contest will be conducted in two parts. First, an International Jury, chaired by Peter Knapp and made up of personnalities from the world of visual arts, will study the project portfolios and designate the winners of the special prizes and mentions - each of whom will be nominated for the "Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey". An exhibition and catalogue will present the nominees' projects within the framework of the IMAGES Festival which will be held in Vevey in October 2000. Second, the International Jury will announce the winner of the "Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey" at the IMAGES Festival. The "Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey" comprises the sum of EUR 20'000, destined for carrying out the winning project with a view to exhibiting and publishing it at the next contest. |
Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey As a result of his prize, Bogdan Konopka, winner of the 2nd "Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey", has been able to carry out his project «Reconnaissances» which will be exhibited at the IMAGES Festival in October 2000. Alongside this exhibition, there will be one devoted to the projects of the contestants nominated for the award of the 3rd "Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey", a special prize or a mention. This dual focus - with Bogdan Konopka's finished work face to face with the projects of the most promising contestants in the 3rd "Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey" - will provide an extraordinary panorama of European photographic creation and a unique opportunity to discover new trends and talents.
Peter Knapp In allowing its audience to compare the innovative and experimental works of the winners with a concrete finished work, IMAGES Festival - devoted to budding creation - wishes to provide a sort of visual reference serving to situate the exhibits in the evolution of photographic creation. After Jeanloup Sieff in 1995 and Werner Bischof in 1998, IMAGES Festival will present an imposing exhibition of the works of Peter Knapp, Chairman of the Jury of the 3rd Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey, at the Swiss Camera Museum. Born in Bäretswil in 1931, Peter Knapp attended the Institute for Industrial Art and Design in Zurich and the College of Art and Architecture in Paris. He has worked in Paris, Brussels and New York. Former Artistic Director and fashion photographer for «Elle» and fashion photographer for Courrèges (20 years), Peter Knapp's work has been published in «Stern», «Vogue», «The Sunday Times» and «Marie-Claire». With numerous exhibitions to his credit, he has devoted all his attention to teaching since 1984. | |||||
