Rules and Regulations


1 Contestant


All contestants must be professional photographers or students of photography and have resided in Europe since 1 January 1999.Each contestant may submit one project only.

Employees of all organising bodies, partners or sponsors of the Festival are banned from taking part in the contest.

2 Deadline


Project portfolios must be received by the organisers before 31 December 1999 at the following address :

and be marked :

No commercial value. Customs value only.

3 Registration fee


A registration fee of EUR 25 is payable to cover the cost of returning non-selected portfolios.

4 Project portfolios


Projects are to presented in the form of a portfolio, comprising 10 items maximum (photos, drawings, plans, etc ..., measuring no more than 40 x 50 cm). The items should not be framed, glued or mounted in a passe-partout, and at least 5 must be photographs.

All photographs must be prints. The contestant's name and address must be clearly indicated on the back of each item in the portfolio.

Each portfolio must be accompanied by a project outline (one typed A4 page maximum in French, German or English), a personal biography, an official contestant entry form and a receipt of payment of the registration fee.

5 Authorisations


It is up to each contestant to obtain the authorisations required (protection of privacy) for submitting his/her works to compete in the "Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey".

 


6 Rights


The Foundation "Vevey, Ville d'images" reserves the right to reproduce and distribute all or part of any of the prize-winning portfolios within the context of any action it may take to promote the "Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey" and/or the IMAGES Festival, and to extend this right to the sponsors of the respective prizes.

The prize-winning portfolios remain the property of the Town of Vevey. The prizewinners remain sole rights owners.

7 Jury


Chaired by Peter Knapp, the International Jury appointed by the Foundation "Vevey, Ville d'images" will be made up of leading personalities in the world of photography, images and visual arts.

Depending on the number of entries received, preselection will be conducted in order to safeguard the quality of the Jury's deliberations.

8 Awarding


The special prizes and mentions will be presented at the beginning of the IMAGES Festival, during the official opening ceremony of the "Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey" exhibition.

The winners of the "Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey" will be announced during the Festival's closing festivities.

9 Accomplishment deadline


The winner of the "Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey" will be accorded a deadline of twelve months in which to accomplish the winning project in the form of prints destined for exhibition, as per the directives stipulated by the Jury.

10 Responsibility


The Foundation "Vevey, Ville d'images" declines all responsibility in the event of loss of portfolios during shipment.

The "Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey" and the Foundation "Vevey, Ville d'images" likewise decline all responsibility in the event of damage to or loss of contestant portfolios, whatever the cause.

Participation in the "Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey" implies full acceptance of the present Rules and Regulations. The decisions of the Jury will be final.

The present Rules and Regulations are subject to Swiss law.

The place of jurisdiction is Vevey.

Special prizes


Alpa Prize
Attributed to a project displaying originality in the use of an Alpa 12 WA camera.
Comprises an Alpa 12 WA or Alpa 12 S/WA worth EUR 9000.

Special Jury Prize - Kodak Prize
Attributed by the Jury to the project of its choice.
Comprises free choice of Kodak material to the value of Sfr. 8000.- (EUR 5000).

Leica Small Format Prize
Attributed to a project devoted to small format photo-reportage.
Comprises Leica equipment worth EUR 6000.

Broncolor Lighting Prize
Attributed to a project using artificial light.
Comprises Broncolor flash equipment worth EUR 3750.

Sinar Prize
Attributed to a project using a technical, numerical or silver image camera.
Comprises free choice of Sinar materiel to the value of EUR 3500.

Hasselblad Prize
Attributed to a project using a medium format camera.
Comprises Hasselblad medium format equipment worth EUR 3000.

Mentions
The Jury will attribute five mentions, each worth EUR 1000
