Jury’s Special Prize at the 8th Vevey International Photo Award 2011/2012
Frederick Vidal is interested in objects, surfaces and compositions that accumulate on the edge of urban reality. This German photographer explores rubbish dumps, abattoirs and sewage plants, revealing ecological disasters by creating parallels between microscopic pictures and photographs of landscapes. For instance, a mountain scene is replaced by electronic components or by images that form in sewage water. Entropia flicks between documentary photography and abstract work, allowing the viewer the freedom of interpretation on many levels.
