Roman Signer’s latest work was specially created for Festival Images and consists of a rectangular cabin whose walls are covered with rows of shooting targets. Ironically entitled Schützenstube, this installation immerses the spectator into a hypnotising space devoid of any spatial references where he/she is always potentially in the marksman’s line of fire. The installation will include an performance by the artist throughout the Festival.
As part of the SHOOT ! - la photographie existentielle exhibition, the Festival presents 19 original Polaroid pictures taken by Roman Signer at a firing range at the Swiss agricultural fair, followed by the Schusslinie installation which shows on two facing TV screens the artist shooting two red balloons. Finally five stills re-enact the Figur performance in which Signer explodes a pot of black paint whose eruptions draw his silhouette on a wooden board.
