To celebrate the 300th anniversary of birth of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, the Festival Images teamed up with Vevey’s cultural department to organise a competition for students from the CEPV (Vevey school of photography) to allow the winner to create a project linked to the philosopher. Simon Rimaz realised that the Rousseau’s written work was hugely important in attracting tourists to the Swiss Riviera at the beginning of the Belle Epoque. As a result, he explores the juxtaposition between the romantic idea of the countryside compared to its portrayal by the tourism industry in the name of profit.
A coproduction of the Festival Images (Vevey) and the Service culturel de la Ville de Vevey, in collaboration with the CEPV.
