In the series Diaroma Map - presented for the first time in its entirety - Japanese photographer Sohei Nishino focuses his attention on 12 megalopolis cities, including Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro, as well as Bern. Each collage includes thousands of traditionally-developed photographs taken on-site, followed by a considerable amount of work in the studio resulting in cards expressing the artist’s subjectivity when faced with the exhibition space. Thanks to their approximation plus free interpretation, these urban half-real, half-utopian landscapes reveal unexpected elements and evoke carvings of city-plans from the end of the Middle Age.
The series Diorama Map contains maps of the cities of : Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Tokyo, Shanghai, New York, Paris, Hong Kong, London, Istanbul, Rio de Janeiro, Berlin and Bern
The exhibition also presents A Record, a film by Yohei Cogi about Sohei Nishino’s work
