Dieter Meier’s music videos for the band Yello made a permanent mark on the 1980s, a decade in which artistic avant-garde, unpredictable humour and commercial success were not incompatible. The style of these short experimental films influenced the beginnings of TV channel MTV and in some ways pioneered this new use of videos. The simplicity employed in their creation produces a rich aesthetic which gives no reason to be envious of some of today’s productions that appear all over the internet.
