Weronika Gęsicka, Encyclopaedia

Images Vevey Light Broncolor Honourable Mention 2023/2024

To protect their copyrights, editors used to place fake entries in encyclopedias. These often very fictitious definitions could then be used in court to legally attest plagiarism by a rival.
For her new Encyclopaedia project, to be premiered internationally at Images Vevey in September 2024, Weronika Gęsicka uses artificial intelligence software to give a photographic dimension to these invented definitions. Thus, the artist subtly connects the historical and analogue content of encyclopedias with the challenges of artificial intelligence in terms of copyrights and the dissemination of knowledge.
