Face in the Crowd
Alex Prager was born in Los Angeles in 1979, where she lives and works. Self-taught, she rapidly met with international success exhibiting at the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) as well as at the Whitney Museum of American Art in San Francisco. In Face in the Crowd she explores the emotions associated with crowd phenomena through photography and cinema. Following complex visual scenarios involving many participants, the artist reveals the paradox of the individual lost among the masses. The framing contributes to providing spectators with an unexpected crowd experience: the smallest details stand out, thus operating as visual clues to the background and privacy of each of these figures. Alex Prager has designed a specific installation for Festival Images, including the short film Sunday.
