REEL - UNREEL
Born in 1959 in Anvers, Francis Alÿs has lived in Mexico City since 1986. An architect by training, his work is based on his strolls and rambles in urban areas. In REEL – UNREEL, two children follow one another in a mad scramble through the city of Kabul. They play hoop with a film reel that one unwinds and the other winds up. Over its course the film becomes imbued with dust, water and fire from the street. This film resumes all the themes dear to Francis Alÿs, directing a key work in his career.
