Hans Eijkelboom

Cities & Numbers

In the style of an anthropologist, the artist Hans Eijkelboom uses photography as a means to research appearances and identities. Intrigued by the evolution of consumer society and how it influences individuals, he has produced several series immersed in public areas. For Cities & Numbers he allowed himself several days to identify people bearing a number between 1 and 100 on their clothes in the streets of six towns. After this timescale has elapsed, he organises the images in ascending order. This installation in the town centre reflects the context in which Eijkelboom took his shots: hidden in the crowd.
