Born in Paris in 1970, Oliver Culmann is a member of the collective Tendance Floue the objective of which is to explore the world and to diversify the modes of representation of contemporary photography. In New Delhi, Culmann was stunned to discover the city’s countless digital retouching studios, specialising in advertising. With his series Diversions, he entrusts these laboratories with a series of urban landscapes or holiday resorts that he has photographed himself in Delhi and Goa. The urban landscapes are transformed, the sky clears and the power lines disappear creating an idyllic postcard decor. For Festival Images, he presents the before and after images opposite each other, like a mirror confronting a reality and its utopia.
