Switzerland (1985)Au Bon Vin
Au Bon Vin is the story of a particular moment in time, when a century-old café was about to close down. In 2022, the Au Bon Vin café, quite an institution in the village of Chardonne above Vevey, closed its doors for good. Lucas Olivet, a relative newcomer to the area, decided to photograph the restaurant before it came to an end. Run by the same couple for over 30 years and bringing together several regional traditions on the verge of disappearing, this café was a Vaudois pub, a village bistro and a country butcher’s shop, all in one.
The photographs reveal fragments of the bistro’s special ambience and authentic furnishing. Part photographic report, part personal story, Au Bon Vin is a nostalgic reminder of an era when the café was the hub of village social life.
In the context of this exhibition, Lucas Olivet and Images Vevey copublished the fanzine Au Bon Vin.
The installation Au Bon Vin is part of the parallel exhibitions of the Images Vevey Biennial.
