Sous l'influence de Claude, Vincent, Paul... et les autres
Sous l’influence de Claude, Vincent, Paul… et les autres is a monumental installation by Matthias Brunner. His 20-metre-long quadruple projection creates mirror effects to offer an immersive and contemplative juncture on the cusp of cinema and painting. For the past ten years, this Swiss artist has been creating installations centred on remounting films. Sous l’influence de Claude, Vincent, Paul… et les autres plunges us into a stream of excerpts from French films of the 1920s.
Black and white images abound, colliding and intertwining, carried by the music of Arvo Pärt. In this ode to movement, Brunner reveals the stylistic and thematic similarities between these films and impressionist painting.
