14 Mar - 21 Apr 2012
Nikita Pirogov is a young Russian multimedia artist born in St-Petersburg in 1989. He grew up in the Kuban area of South Russia and keeps strong memories of his childhood, a time spent in a nature made of « endless territories ».
His interest for poetry and literature lead him to enter the Theatre Academy of St-Petersburg. In 2011, he received a scholarship for an MA in photography at the European Design Institute in Madrid, where he currently lives.
THE OTHER SHORE
The multimedia project the Other Shore gathers a hundred photographs taken by Nikita Pirogov in his native country during 3 years, but also videos, sound installations, objects and performances.
The artist describes this work as a « journal of sensations » that tries to connect people, their environment and the arts, in order to attenuate the communication problems of our societies. In parallel to his images, he has developped a significant poetic production, that he usually reads during openings as a form of performance.
The Other Shore presented at Quai1 is the first exhibition of this artist in Switzerland.
In 2011, Nikita Pirogov participated to the 8th International Photography Award in Vevey, organised by the Festival Images.
