Face in the Crowd

Alex Prager uses photography and cinema to explore the emotions associated with crowd dynamics. Applying a visual grammar requiring numerous extras, her Face in the Crowd reveals the paradoxes of the individual, lonely and lost in the crowd. The framing and lighting focus on details of the composition that provide clues to explore the intimacy of the characters. For her first exhibition in Switzerland, she created an installation for Espace Images mixing photographs, film stills and her short film Sunday.

La Petite Mort Film Still #3

La Petite Mort Film Still #3 is a photogram from a short film Alex Prager shot in 2012. In a tribute to classical cinema and to the masters of video art, she directed Judith Godrèche in a troubling sequence that explores the boundaries between ecstasy and death. After being hit by a train, her character finds herself immersed in a lake, only to come out of it completely transformed. Stretched to over 210 m2, the monumental photogram was displayed along the train tracks that cross Vevey, an echo to both the film’s story and sets.
