The Pékin, théâtre du peuple series shows the Chinese capital under construction ahead of the 2008 Olympic Games. The city was nothing but holes, rubble and cranes, behind which large apartment blocks were already rising. Ambroise Tézenas presented a series of spaces emptied of all human presence in this huge changing city full of contrasts. Presented at the Swiss Camera Museum, his images bring yesterday’s and today’s Beijing into perspective with a dreamlike and poetic quality, closer to a theatrical set than to an actual modern city.
