The Urban Cave
For The Urban Cave, Andrea Star Reese made her way into the intimacy of the homeless living in the abandoned tunnels of the New York subway. Her photo-reportage reveals a parallel and unknown world where “have-nots” survive in makeshift homes threatened with eviction by the authorities. The project was exhibited in a Vevey train station underpass, a setting that used ambient sound to reinforce the photographer’s intention: Viewers could hear the trains on the surface like the homeless do in their underground.
