Andres Serrano

Andres Serrano presided over the Jury of the Grand Prix Images Vevey 2011/2012. In 1992, he photographed various models of firearms as true works of art. Presented in the SHOOT! – la photographie existentielle group show, his Objects of Desire series plays with framing and blurring to emphasize the shape and shine of these weapons and to force viewers to focus their attention on details such as the mouth of the barrel, the trigger or the grip. By deliberately exposing the aesthetic qualities of these deadly objects, the photographer questions the American fetish for firearms, a source of repeated massacres and a real scourge for the nation.
