From the Shelton, Looking East
Arno Rafael Minkkinen’s work is an intimate and unusual approach to self-portraiture. Born with a cleft palate, he photographed every part of his body except for his face. When displayed like giant trompe l’œil on the facades of several buildings throughout the town, his images took on a different dimension by creating an unexpected dialogue with their environment. In the largest piece, From the Shelton, Looking East, stretched over 500 m2, the photographers hands seem to move two skyscrapers apart, opening up an imaginary path between Vevey and New York for the duration of Festival Images.
