After joining the Nidwald Cantonal Police in 1948, Arnold Odermatt spent over four decades documenting road accidents and the daily life of his colleagues. In the quirky eye of the policeman photographer, ordinary scenes of pile-ups, melted headlights or a police patrol in action become extraordinary. Displayed over 500 m2 on a facade, the monumental image of a policeman doing a handstand in the middle of a road blends in the urban surroundings, while a series of images of road traffic were displayed around Vevey’s main intersection.
