Nimbus

Berndnaut Smilde used a smoke machine and fixative to create clouds indoors that he then photographed just before they vanished. These ephemeral performances, often set in exhibition venues, question the very nature of a work of art while echoing the transience of natural elements. His Nimbus were brought outdoors in Vevey, near the train tracks, notably with an image over 220 m2 creating an optical illusion on the facade of a factory making turbines to transform hydro energy into electricity.
