The laureate of the Grand Prix Images Vevey 1997/1998, Bogdan Konopka explores the evolution of European cities by photographing their hidden side: backyards, waste- land and abandoned buildings. In a quest for an invisible town, his Reconnaissances series delivers landscapes and interiors void of any human presence in a near-apocalyptic atmosphere. Presented at Espace Images, his medium formats were contact prints the size of the negative whose precious metallic black quality gave the impression of timeless still lifes.
