Christian Jankowski

Christian Jankowski presented a video installation with two separate screens showing a series of auditions to find the next Jesus in the style of a reality show. Under the gaze of prominent figures from the Vatican, candidates parade breaking bread, carrying the cross or pretending to accomplish miracles. Over the span of an hour, the heated conversations between the jury and the applicants reveal the way in which the Catholic Church currently considers the figure of Christ and how that image is conveyed in the media. Casting Jesus was shown at the Théâtre Oriental-Vevey, initially a church that became in turn a cinema, an erotic cinema and finally today, Vevey’s experimental theater.
