Before Photography

In Before Photography, Chuck Samuels dives into his own memories to question his relationship with his father regarding their common practice of photography. Alongside his family photos, he presents photograms and film clips made before his own introduction to the medium, diverting them by posing, camera in hand, in the settings of famous movies such as La Dolce Vita, Sunset Boulevard or Blow-Up. The autobiographical fiction thus broadens the reflection about the figure of the photographer in the moving image, whether in film or television.
