Chimères et Merveilles

For decades, Coco Fronsac has been searching flea markets for old photographs. These anonymous portraits go on to enjoy an imaginary second life as components of her art. In her Chimères et Merveilles series, these faces from another time were painted over in gouache with ancestral masks and strange accessories to form a gallery of surreal characters. In Vevey, the pieces were displayed inside a former ironmonger’s and on its shopfront windows, while large silhouettes invited viewers to interact with the artist’s extravagant world.
