Flowering Heights

After presenting the first chapter of their series Atlas of the New World at the Biennale Images Vevey in 2020, Edoardo Delille and Giulia Piermartiri present the second chapter of this ambitious project at Images Gibellina. In Val Ferret, at the foot of the rapidly shrinking Planpincieux glacier, the Mont Blanc massif—once a symbol of permanence—now reveals the visible effects of global warming. The artists project images of blooming meadows onto snow-covered landscapes and alpine villages, merging two temporalities: the familiar winters of the Alps and a future in which glaciers and snow-based activities may vanish. Flowering Heights combines these projections with portraits of local inhabitants whose lives are closely tied to the mountains, encouraging reflection on the transformation of a landscape long believed to be unalterable.
