Ice Men

Between 2014 and 2016, Ekaterina Shelganova met amateur ice-fishing enthusiasts who venture into the ice shelf of the Gulf of Finland in the heart of winter to indulge in their lonesome activity that may have more to do with meditation than with proper fishing. In a tribute to their patience, the artist chose to use the long exposure times of a view camera for her Ice Men series. These black and white portraits were displayed along the lakefront, not far from Vevey’s fishing harbor.
