One Minute Sculptures
For his One Minute Sculptures, Erwin Wurm asked the public to adopt an improbable posture with everyday objects, such as fruit, a cup or a piece of furniture, for one minute and according to a specific procedure. For his exhibition at the Villa “Le Lac” Le Corbusier, the artist created replicas of the furniture in the famous Swiss architect’s house, allowing visitors to then become fleeting living sculptures. The house, once the home of Le Corbusier’s parents, thus became a “performing machine” during Festival Images.
Narrow House
The Narrow House is a compressed version of Erwin Wurm’s childhood home. It is the scale model of a typical 1960s Austrian prefabricated suburban house, reduced to a width of 1.38 meters. Similarly, the interior fittings and furniture seem to have been squeezed and stretched between a giant vice. Making their way from room to room, visitors experienced the artist’s perception of the environment when he was a child. Presented in the Salle del Castillo, the narrow 20-meter-long house translated the sense of oppression young Erwin Wurm felt, raised in a strict family with traditional values.
