Desert Gate
Often considered the world’s wealthiest city, Dubai aroused western curiosity at the turn of the 21st century with its colossal government construction projects aimed to turn the place into the top luxury tourist destination. Fascinated by the region, Florian Joye produced a project in 2006 featuring the superlative city like a papier-mâché decor tossed in the middle of the desert. Between commercial and documentary photography, presented in the public space, his Desert Gate series outlined the discrepancy between the projected reality and the reality assembled in the eye of the viewer.
