Today’s Life and War
Today’s Life and War
Gohar Dashti described the complex relationship between everyday reality and personal experience by showing ordinary moments in a young Iranian couple’s life against the backdrop of war: tanks, bunkers or barbed wire. With such surrealistic staging, the protagonists seem totally detached from the context of violence around them. His Today’s Life and War series, presented outdoors in front of the Hôtel-de-Ville, offered a quirky vision of modern-day Iran, away from the negative image traditionally conveyed by western media.
