Hans Eijkelboom
Cities & Numbers
Hans Eijkelboom has been producing photographic series that resemble performances since the 1960s, always respecting a strict procedure, like in anthropology. For Cities & Numbers, the artist spent a few days in the public sphere to capture snapshots of people with clothing showing numbers from 1 to 100. These images were then assembled in ascending numerical order and presented on a giant five-meter-wide screen at the heart of the buzzing Vevey train station. For Festival Images, the Dutch artist also created a street project in Lausanne, which led to the publication of Faces in the Crowd.
Portraits & Cameras
The Portraits & Cameras series comprises some sixty advertisements for cameras, each accompanied by a portrait of Hans Eijkelboom taken the same year as the advertisement. The diptychs thus portray the artist as he ages against the evolution of photographic techniques since his birth. The series was displayed at the Swiss Camera Museum in Vevey, which exhibited their collection of the same models of cameras featured in the advertisements, especially for the occasion.
