Les Avatars de Vénus
Les Avatars de Vénus
Created in 2007, the video installation Les Avatars de Vénus comprises four screens showing hundreds of representations of the Roman goddess, be they paintings, collages, assemblages or photographs. Morphed together, these images seem to blend into one another to form a single, fluid Venus in perpetual transition. Exhibited in the attic of the Vevey History Museum, this piece by Jean-Jacques Lebel shone an impertinent light on the persistence of the archetypes of feminine beauty in art, throughout the ages and across techniques and borders.
