After six frenetic years spent in New York, Katharina Bosse moved back to Germany and gave birth to two children. In her A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Mother series she photographed herself and her babies in nature or in the altogether, to attest to the radical changes – both physical and psychological – maternity brings to a woman’s life. Awarded the Broncolor Prize – Light by the Grand Prix Images Vevey 2007/2008, her work exposes the multiple and complex facets of the maternal figure: virginal, feeder, beastly and sometimes provocative.
