Laurence Aëgerter

Thanks to the Nestlé Grant from the Grand Prix Images Vevey 2015/2016, Laurence Aëgerter investigates the effects of images on individuals dealing with senile dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, with the aim of creating a therapeutic tool to improve their well-being. Collaborating with neurologists, gerontologists and psychologists, she based her project Photographic Treatment on studies demonstrating that the manipulation of photographs stimulates cognitive functions. The artist invited visitors into a clinically white exhibition space where, as part of this therapy, they activated their senses as they smelt prints covered with orange-, mint- or rose-flavored ink. All fragrances were totally unrelated to the subjects represented.
