Passing Revisited

Laurence Bonvin photographed animated street corners in the center of Johannesburg, South Africa. She was fascinated with the fluidity of bodies making their way through the crowd. The fleeting moments captured by her camera suspend the flow of passers-by, revealing a spontaneous choreography, a game of stares and gestures in which everyone seems to take part. For the Cardinal Points project, the artist temporarily placed these images on the walls of crossroads in the South African metropolis, the context in which they were originally shot.
