Making Memeries

Before the Internet, taking a picture was an act of memory that physically froze a moment in a snapshot. With the dissemination of smartphones, digital photography generates vast virtual archives, some of which will never be looked at. The title of the exhibition Making Memeries plays on the tension between the words memories and meme, pointing to the viral images submerging the web. By adding sound, animation and 3D-renditions activated via a mobile app, Lucas Blalock invited viewers to reimagine the medium and its future possibilities as they experienced true augmented photography.
