Thanks to the Nestlé Grant from the Grand Prix Images Vevey 2009/2010, Lucie & Simon, now better known as Brodbeck & de Barbuat, looked at the cycle of life. The duo’s five portraits of women, one of whom is Lucie’s grandmother, represent each of them at various stages of their life. Screened in a loop, the Living Images video series explores the boundaries between still and moving images: In what seems deliberately close to a still photograph, the subject is immobile, yet a few silent gestures, almost as a last breath, allow viewers to perceive movement.
