LOVE ME
Self-proclaimed life president of Turkmenistan in 1999, Saparmyrat Niyazov developed a propaganda program and a delusional cult of the personality until his death in 2006. From monumental statues to imposing colorful billboards or even spaghetti packaging, Nicolas Righetti photographed the ubiquitous figure of the “Head of the Turkmen” in the capital city of Ashgabat. His LOVE ME series was displayed on large advertising posters pasted in a Vevey train station underpass so that viewers also found themselves surrounded by multiple images of the megalomaniac tyrant.
