RFK Funeral Train

In 1968, Paul Fusco covered Robert F. Kennedy’s funeral for Look magazine. While in the train that brought the body from New York to Washington DC, he photographed thousands of Americans gathered along the tracks to pay tribute to the late senator and presidential candidate. Rather than documenting the official protocol taking place inside, he thus gave viewers of the time the impression of being part of the funeral procession. Recontextualized on the platform walls in the Vevey train station, the images of the RFK Funeral Train series allowed travelers to experiment, from their own train window, with the perspective the reporter adopted nearly fifty years previously.
