Mobile Homes & Harsh Realty

Created at the end of the 1990s, the hyperrealist photomontages of Peter Garfield’s Mobile Homes series represent falling American suburban homes about to crash-land. Between the apparent tranquility and the imminent disaster, his images trigger an absurd feeling as well as questions about their meaning. As the subprime crisis was raging in 2008, the American’s work took another dimension at Festival Images, where one of the houses was presented falling from the top of a grain silo, also about to be taken down. Meanwhile, the Vevey History Museum showed photographs from his Mobile Homes and Harsh Realty series, as well as the video installation Deep Space 1.
