Martha & Alice

Having initially embarked on a career as a psychotherapist, Siân Davey focuses on personal experiences. Her project Martha & Alice, specially designed for Festival Images Vevey, combines two of her photobooks Looking for Alice (2016) and Martha (2018) dedicated respectively to her daughter and stepdaughter. This British artist depicts the day-to-day lives of Alice, diagnosed with Down’s Syndrome before birth, and teenage Martha troubled by her stepmother’s disregard. Through unreserved portraits and everyday scenes, these series bear witness to the special bonds that develop over the years between members of a blended family.

With Martha & Alice, presented at the Jardin du Rivage, Siân Davey celebrates family via photography, a genuine tool for introspection.
