Paysages intérieurs
Paysages intérieurs
When she was a student, Svetlana Khachaturova rented a bedroom covered with wallpaper depicting a landscape. This experience inspired her Paysages intérieurs series executed inside Russian homes with images that deliberately blur viewers’ perception. Thanks to photography’s flattening effect, the nature reproduced on the wall-paper feeds the illusion while the furniture and other commonplace objects anchor the scene in reality. Presented in a glazed gallery for the Biennale Images Vevey, the backlit installation toyed with the fluctuation between interior and exterior, fiction and reality.
