Pony Congo
In a series of diptychs, Vicente Paredes confronts the eye of the beholder to two visions of childhood: on one side, young Congolese having to provide for their family and, on the other, Spanish high-society teenagers taking part in pony racing competitions and whose portraits were redacted for anonymity. By provoking an unlikely photographic encounter, the Pony Congo series presented at Espace Images addressed stereotypes still prevailing in our post-colonial societies and raised the issue of inequality with regard to children’s rights to their own image.
