This immersive book opens a window onto a dark and jagged territory, as if torn from the era of the Industrial Revolution. On his first visit to the highly restricted port of Dunkirk, a place almost entirely devoted to steel and coal, the concept of the Anthropocene, this “age of humankind,” imposed itself on the photographer. With his feet sinking into mineral mud, Vincent Jendly throws us into this immense and grimy space: a landscape radically transformed, offering a vision that nearly suggests imminent collapse.

A stark and uncompromising book, it reveals the scale of the marks we leave upon the Earth, marks that now render us a true geological force.
