LAST DAYS to see the exhibitions by JAMES BARNOR & NICO KRIJNO
Discover the current exhibition at L’Appartement, bringing together James Barnor and Nico Krijno, two artists from the African continent with complementary approaches. Two countries, two generations, two ways of approaching reality through images.
James Barnor
Ever Young
James Barnor has worked on Les Chambres, each of which reveals a different aspect of his career. In Accra, he captured the fervour that led up to Ghana’s independence in 1957. His portraits, taken in his studio Ever Young in Jamestown, then in London and finally in Studio X23 on his return to Ghana, bear witness to the country’s socio-cultural changes. From 1959 in London, he photographed the African diaspora and Swinging London for Drum magazine. A pioneer of photojournalism, Barnor offers a positive and dynamic vision of West Africa, forming a valuable archive of diasporic identities in the 20th century.

In the second apartment, Nico Krijno deconstructs the traditional codes of photography. In Le Couloir, a video accompanied by an interactive installation explores memory and transformation. In Le Salon, a book combining photography, collage and painting offers a playful and spontaneous reading experience. Finally, in Le Cinéma, an immersive short film questions our relationship with the world, playing on perception through mirror effects and mise en abyme.
