“Sans visage”, Sarah Carp
Swiss artist Sarah Carp, confined to her apartment, begins photographing her children during the Covid-19 lockdown. The girls’ father objects to the photographs and blocks their publication, invoking the protection of the child. Carp then restages the scenes with other children, but the spontaneity is lost and the expressions are no longer the same. She covers the children actors’ heads with coloured dots. This artifice acts as a mask and raises numerous questions about minors’ right to their image and their consent. This book speaks subtly of prohibition and concealment, and of the ruse that makes it possible to bypass censorship.

Swiss photographer Sarah Carp, a graduate of the Vevey School of Photography (CEPV), creates poetic photographic narratives that blend reportage and staged imagery. The recipient of numerous awards, she was named Swiss Press Photographer of the Year 2020 and received the Swiss Press Award in 2021 for her project Parenthèse, a series about her life with her two daughters made during the lockdown.
In 2024, Sarah Carp presented her series Sans visage in an international premiere as part of the Biennale Images Vevey.
