Tribute to Martin Parr

Martin Parr has passed away, and the world of photography is grieving. One of its brightest and most distinctive voices has fallen silent, leaving behind a profound sense of loss.

Here at Images Vevey, his passing touches us deeply. Martin was far more than a mentor: he brought with him a rare blend of generosity, playfulness and inspiration that left a lasting imprint on all those who had the privilege to work with him.

With humility, we join the many tributes shared across the world since Sunday, each one a reflection of the respect, affection and admiration he inspired throughout his remarkable career.

During our many collaborations over the years, Martin Parr encouraged us to explore photography with greater freedom, curiosity and a joyful irreverence. He invited us to see images differently, to embrace experimentation, and to “think out of the box”. His presence opened doors, widened perspectives, and reminded us that creativity thrives when approached with both courage and humour.

For all he brought to us — his insight, his generosity of spirit, his encouragement and his kindness — the entire Images Vevey family offers its heartfelt gratitude.

Our thoughts are with his wife Susie Parr — who will always be welcome back in Vevey — with his daughter Ellen, his family, the team at his studio and the Martin Parr Foundation, and with the global photography community that mourns one of its most influential godfathers.

Martin leaves behind a legacy shaped by his unmistakable vision, his curiosity, his irreverence, and a sense of humour that was unmistakably, delightfully “so British”.

For three years, Martin Parr mentored Indian photographer Debsuddha, winner of the Images Vevey Book Award 2023/2024 for his project Crossroads. In constant dialogue with him, Parr generously shared his experience, guiding the artist through the preparation of his book and the key stages of his work.
