Testament (aka Barbara), Greenback 2012
Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey produce large on-site tableaux vivants. They sow grass on a vertical surface in a giant darkroom and project a negative for several days during the germination period. Photosynthesis replaces the chemical gelatin-silver process: Blades of grass become natural pixels and reveal the image in hues varying from yellow to green according to the intensity of the exposure to the original image. In this all-digital era, visitors were confronted with the materiality of the photographic object as they ran their fingertips over a tailor-made seven-meter high vegetal installation displayed in a church in Vevey.

Heather Ackroyd et Dan Harvey réalisent in situ de grands tableaux vivants. Ils sèment du gazon sur une surface placée verticalement dans une chambre noire géante puis y projettent un négatif pendant une phase de germination de plusieurs jours. La photosynthèse remplace le processus chimique de développement argentique : les brins d’herbe deviennent des pixels naturels et révèlent des images variant du jaune au vert selon l’intensité de l’exposition à l’image originale. À l’heure du tout numérique, le spectateur se trouve confronté à la matérialité de l’objet photographique en touchant du bout des doigts une installation végétale de 7 mètres de hauteur réalisée sur mesure à Vevey et présentée dans le choeur d’une église.
