Untitled (I’ve taken too many photos / I’ve never taken a photo)

In New York, Anouk Kruithof met Harrison Medina, 19, who had never taken a photograph in his life. The artist showed him 300 images on her computer. The young man picked 75 of them, a selection that forms the base for the Untitled (I’ve taken too many photos / I’ve never taken a photo) installation. Hung across the magnificent wood ceiling of the Vevey History Museum, the images could be viewed with a mirror, allowing visitors to focus their gaze at their leisure and admire the woodwork at the same time. The arrangement was a diversion from usual exhibition methods, and as such it questioned today’s many ways of showing and perceiving photography. For Festival Images and as part of this project, the Dutch artist also made a book, co-published with Images Vevey.
